Wellingtown

Went to Wellington this week for my girlfriend’s show at Enjoy Gallery.

I took my bike along and went for a ride around the coast.

First I went to Maranui Surf club for a feed. That shit is right on the beach!

The ride around the coast is real nice on a good day. There’s pretty much no traffic and it’s all wild and rugged and shit.

Went for a little tiki down this path, but it pretty much ends at the beach and a crash.

In the city, we met up with Ralph at Customs Brew Bar and had some real nice single-origin filter coffee.

Here’s Ralph’s bike.

Testing Whips

The Sticker Man the Sticker Man gave up his bike for science so and provided a good test subject. The bike was a great descender due to its per-suite style front end Geo. Coming up hills was not fun but put this puppy facing down and it ripped. The back end felt sweet with the bb out front and gave ample room for the toptube length. Witch gave this bike a good overall position.

Caldera Cycles

Chris over at Onehunga has been working super hard lately on his Hand Built frames, Caldera Cycles.

This is his third Cyclocross frame.. looks clean, and it going to look super nice built up.

Chris got hit pretty hard a while back on his track bike he built, he lost some teeth, got knocked out for a while, and the driver didn’t even stop, asshole. And worse of all, the bike got messed up.

Chris is working on a new bike at the moment, its going to be his shop bike, and is built around the idea of a 70′s 26″ cruiser.  Should be rad.

Keep up the killer work Chris !!

Hi Straton, Mark, Mike, Rowan

This post is for you boys.

so lately the skull bike club auckland division has been busy during the winter. we have been building Moto-Bikes like mental mentalists. you guys better get on it and get more hardcore than ever.

Tim’s harbinger of death need no introduction. after several attempt at making a double headed monster, the Wizard decided to settle for a rideable beast. the result is quite flabbergasting really. portable petrol tanks sealed with dead animal skin, extra reinforcement welded on to tame the wild stallion, sick bike parts custom parts such as race anodized blue air filter, aluminum exhaust pipe spacer. engine has been welded on for no turning back and maximum response from the engine. drum brake from the 50′s for that near death experience after every ride. and the nec plus ultra is the 3 speed gear on the back for pedaling efficiency in any condition.

The Wazman is always the groundbreaker in terms of bicycle brutality. his moto-bike is no exception. i stopped counting the number of sweet mods going on but i’ll try to name most of them. jackson pollock paintjob, upgraded clutch cabling system with the addition of a brake noodle (i gotta do that on mine), the PUNISHER air filter, skull clutch lever, pink rear stays for that flesh-like look, mis-matching pedals for extra show off, fit stem with hollow gold bolts and bla bla blab la blabla.

callum’s bike before

Callum’s megadeth missile is nearing completion. there is so much modification on that rig it’s hard to even start anywhere… custom alien bars from adventure cycles, custom air filter, military grade petrol tank, anodized chainring and so much more to come…

the howling crimson before the built

this is my finished vehicule from hell. nothing fancy, just rust and chrome and rust. the only amazing part is the pedals that i brought back from Tahiti. Twizard  took over most of the difficult job to mount the engine cog via the disc mount of the hub, the chainline is a bit off but nothing a roller to redirect everything properly. goes extremely well with a 39t on the back, goes great uphill, a bit slow on the flat…

Sarahs Bike

Here is a quick snap of the bike I got for Sarah here in Vancouver. It is an Asama Dutch style ladies bike. Its super basic but looks nice and classic, and it only cost around $300 new. It definitely has some upgrading ahead of its self. I want to get a Nexus hub on the rear, and maybe some Paul Comp cranks? and a nice alloy stem. Should be a fun project.

In other SBC news, I have updated the new site with our full archive. From August 2010 all the way back to June 2007. I couldn’t figure out how to import the old blog archives, so I basically just went through and linked them. Its pretty rad to look through them all… there is some funny photos and some rad bikes. Here is a few photos I pulled out.

Hello Skull Bike Clubers…

Whats going on Skull Bike Clubers…
Sorry for the huge lack of post’s from myself, I have been traveling for the last 2 month through Asia making my way to the rad city that is Vancouver. I am in Vancouver now and its amazing, I have been riding BMX a bunch, the Skate Parks here a huge step up from NZ and the city trails are fun. Sarah got her self a nice retro ladies bike, so we have been doing some chill rides around together. Vancouver is perfect for cycling. I will upload a bunch of photos from my travels in the next few days. I also have a new BMX so I will get some photos of that up here. Also check out my Tumblr..mikedaviesphoto.tumblr.com for some random photos.

You will have also noticed that I have changed the site around again, the old site was bugging me, it was loading slow and looked weird,  so I have gone with a more simpler and refined theme, now we can just concentrate on posts, no fancy shit,  and we have gone back to our old but rad as hell banner. I hope everyone likes it.

That’s all for now, but I leave you with a GIF of Justin bombing Queen St we shot earlier this year.
